First Deployment in an Operating Coal Mine

PhoenixZ has successfully delivered the first Yellow Finch MK1 prototype to Glencore’s Oaky North Coal Mine for operational evaluation.

The deployment represents a major milestone in the company’s commercialisation journey. The Yellow Finch system is the world’s first intrinsically safe fibre-optic gas monitoring network that delivers both optical power and optical communications to underground gas monitoring stations, eliminating the need for electrical power distribution within hazardous underground environments.

The system continuously monitors methane, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, oxygen, temperature and barometric pressure while providing real-time data to the surface via fibre-optic communication.

The evaluation at Oaky North Coal Mine will provide valuable operational feedback and assist in finalising the commercial MK2 version of the system.
